Covid-19 Library Update

The library service will be operating differently to help us keep our staff and users safe. Please read through the guidelines below and email [email protected] or call us via 01803 540641 if you have any questions.

Upon entry to the LRC

Please make sure that you read our guidance information which is displayed outside both entrances to the LRC. Upon entry please use the hand sanitiser provided. As the LRC is a communal area, all staff must wear a visor and all students must wear a face covering unless exempt due to health reasons. The spiral staircase will no longer be in use (only in emergencies or by LRC staff), so please ensure that you access the LRC via the floor you need to be on.

Click & Collect Service

Users will not be able to physically browse the library books and journals within the LRC. These resources will only be accessible to LRC staff. All of our resources are fully browsable via our Heritage Online catalogue. We also have an ever-growing collection of fantastic online resources that you can access via our eLibrary Moodle page. For support and guidance around using these online resources, please contact [email protected].
Borrowing Items

You can use Heritage Online  to search our library catalogue and check stock availability. Simply fill out this request form  with your contact details and the details of the resources you wish to borrow. The collection point between 8:30am and 4pm is a bookcase accessible on Level 3 of the LRC as you walk in, and between 4pm and 8pm you will be able to collect from the Level 1 Vantage Point reception desk. You can simply pick-up and go – we will have issued the items to your library account and the return dates will be attached to the items. If you do not collect your items within 3 days of being notified, they will be re-shelved.

Returning items

You will able to return your resources to the drop off boxes outside both LRC entrances. If you need to return your items after 4pm when the LRC is closed, please use the library returns box situated to the left of the Level 1 Vantage Point reception desk.

Once you have returned your items please send a confirmation email to [email protected]. Please note that the items will remain on your library account for a number of days whilst they are being quarantined.

Booking a Library PC

We will no longer be able to allow users to drop-in and use a PC. All users will be required to book a slot beforehand by completing this PC booking request form. Following receipt of the request you will be contacted to confirm your booking.

Sanitising wipes will be available on all PC tables, so please ensure that you wipe the mouse and keyboards before and after use. Please do not leave used wipes on the tables, bins are available throughout the LRC. Library staff will also clean all PCs and tables regularly throughout the day.

The Library, or Learning Resource Centre (LRC) is situated in the heart of the Vantage Point building and is accessible over two floors. We have over 25,000 books in our collection, alongside journals and online materials specific to different curriculum areas.

The LRC is also home to over 80 bookable PCs and 20 bookable student laptops. In addition to the main library working areas, there is also a silent study room and a meeting/presentation room, so you can always find a comfortable environment that suits your needs and style of learning.

Close integration with the teaching staff ensures a comprehensive and wide range of books and online resources including e-books, e-journals and databases which are available 24 hours a day, on or off campus.

Our helpful and knowledgeable staff are here to help with library enquiries, finding resources and using the PCs.
