UCSD working in partnership with Chime Social Enterprise to offer bespoke training in audiology

University Centre South Devon (UCSD) is delighted to be working in partnership with NHS partner Chime Social Enterprise, a leading audiology service and centre of excellence in the South West, to offer three paid training posts for Assistant Practitioners.

There has been a decline in sourcing qualified graduates in audiology. Chime is the first and only social enterprise of its kind and is pioneering education, training and employability in audiology to avoid a possible skills gap in the near future.

Successful applicants will attend UCSD on a specialist apprenticeship programme to complete their training alongside gaining on-the-job experience. This is an exciting opportunity to join a unique and rewarding profession with the option to progress to further study and the chance to enter fulltime employment as an Assistant Practitioner at Chime for a minimum of two years following qualification.

Claire Blackham, Programme Coordinator for Health Skills in Higher Education at University Centre South Devon said, “This is a unique opportunity and we are very proud to be working alongside our placement partner, Chime, to bring the very first of this type of Assistant Practitioner role into audiology across the Peninsula. Audiology is an attractive specialism for those looking to combine the use of scientific, technological and communication skills to care for others. The career prospects are excellent and are associated with local and national developments within Audiology. The foundation degree in Healthcare Practice (Assistant Practitioner) is our flagship programme, working alongside Chime with this innovative programme, will ensure that the skill mix of our workforce across the healthcare landscape continues to grow in diversity.”

Phil Johnston, Director Marketing and Business Development at Chime Social Enterprise said, “We are absolutely delighted to have formed a partnership with South Devon College, and look forward to working together to develop and deliver the new Assistant Practitioner role into audiology across the Peninsula. As pioneers and leaders in audiology service, Chime is committed to continue to drive quality and service in hearing services in Devon and beyond.”
