Local History Conference at UCSD

This Friday 18th October the History team at University Centre South Devon are hosting a conference to showcase recently completed local research. The conference will run from 10am to 2pm and will include talks from current students, UCSD alumni, as well as A-level students.

Furthermore, there will be sessions and Q&As with special guests from Torquay Museum and University of Plymouth, as well as local history enthusiast Dr Kevin Dixon.

Dave Wildman, one of the co-organisers of the event said, “We’ve been so excited with the great research completed by our university students over the past several years. This event provides a great opportunity to showcase this work.”

The organisers will also share information on history-related courses at South Devon College, including the History with English foundation degree at University Centre South Devon.

Jon Baldwin, co-ordinator of the degree programme, said, “As lecturers we love teaching on this programme. It is an absolute pleasure to meet the students and watch them develop into fine academics. Every year the students bring enthusiasm for all types of history and year on year produce quality work.”

Dave Wildman hopes that this conference is the first of many, “We are already pencilling in a date for February 2020. Hopefully next time we will also have a book, in which this great research is committed to the printed page.”
