University Centre South Devon receives HCPC approval for FdSc Hearing Aid Audiology

The University Centre South Devon (UCSD) has been recently approved by the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) to deliver the Foundation Degree (Higher Apprenticeship) Hearing Aid Audiology.

UCSD are the first College to become an approved education provider with the HCPC for its own Foundation Degree. The Hearing Aid Audiology foundation degree is one of the first courses to be developed by South Devon College, under its Foundation Degree Awarding Powers (FDAP), awarded by the Quality Assurance Agency earlier this year.

Gaining approval from the professional regulator, HCPC, involved an in-depth review of UCSD quality processes and procedures, as well as the curriculum content of the Foundation Degree. The approval concluded with two visits by panel members from HCPC, who met and discussed the programme with senior managers from the College, current students, and employers who work with the clinical education team.

By receiving this approval, this will provide the students who are successful in achieving the Foundation Degree the eligibility to apply for registration with the HCPC, as a Hearing Aid Dispenser.

Claire Langman, Clinical Education manager said,

“We were very excited to be involved in the approval process for the foundation degree programme. The process was rigorous but extremely rewarding for the whole programme team and the students involved. We wanted to ensure our students are able to seek professional registration post-graduation to enhance their employability, and also to support the development of the work force within the South West. This is a fantastic achievement for the programme team at University Centre South Devon and is of immense value to the students who choose to study with us.”
