Step-up to HE

Are you starting University in September and interested in joining a taster session?

Step Up to HE provides the opportunity for you to explore new ways of learning before you arrive at UCSD. It is a resource that is designed to help you understand what studying at university really means. As you will discover, university is quite different from school, college or work.

All sessions will be offered on Tuesday 15th and Wednesday 16th September. Part 1 during the morning and Part 2 in the afternoon. Choose the day that suits you best and register to reserve your space. Each part is split in to 2 sessions.

Part 1

Session 1 – Starting in Higher Education takes a look at some of the aspects of studying at university, that may differ from your previous experience.

Session 2 – Independent Learning gives insights into different aspects of independent learning as well as practical advice on making it work for you.

Part 2

Session 3– Study Skills for Higher Education  looks at assessments, referencing and finding your voice at university.

Session 4 – Computer Skills for HE  covers the IT and digital skills you will need to write assignments, create presentations and communicate with students and staff.

It is recommended that you engage in all sessions if possible because each one introduces new concepts and provides practical advice to help you get the most out of your time at UCSD.
