Level 4 Learning and Skills Mentor Apprenticeship

• A qualification at Level 3.
• Level 2 English and maths will be required by completion.

The apprenticeship is separated into three modules: ‘Introduction to Mentoring’, ‘Developing Mentoring Skills,’ and ‘Concluding the Mentoring Process’.
Introduction to Mentoring – Roles and responsibilities of a mentor, qualities and behaviours, contracting and creating a positive mentoring relationship.
Developing Mentoring Skills – Assessing starting points, mentoring models, practical sessions and reflection, how to plan, monitor and track sessions, developing action plans, and using mentoring skills and techniques.
Concluding the Mentoring Process – Dealing with barriers, supervision, ending the relationship and theories of evaluation.

Year 1 Modules

Delivery schedule will be shared as part of the application process.

This programme requires you to undertake mentoring in the workplace, which is part of the assessment.

A range of assessments throughout the course are used to support with the final end point assessment. Completion of mentoring records, reflections and observations of mentoring are also used throughout the assessment process to support mentors with their own professional learning and development.

The delivery approach adopted provides a good blend of academic study and practical application. All members of the delivery team have both strong teaching backgrounds and experienced in coaching and mentoring, enabling them to build mentor’s knowledge and skills. Both theoretical and practical assessment formats are used to ensure all learning outcomes can be effectively evidenced. The delivery team work hard to develop supportive learning environments focused on developing mentor’s ‘self-confidence’ and ‘self-concept’, both as mentors and independent Higher Education students. The apprenticeship provides apprentices with an opportunity to enhance their own professional growth and development. By engaging in practical mentoring activities, apprentices can reinforce their existing knowledge and expertise, develop their skills, and gain a broader understanding of mentoring within their own setting.

When not attending the taught course, you will be required to organise and undertake mentoring sessions within the workplace. You will be expected to continue learning independently through self -study.

On completion, all candidates will achieve a Level 4 Mentoring qualification. You may progress onto the Level 5 ILM Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring and the Level 5 Coaching Professional Apprenticeship.

The cost of this apprenticeship is £5000 and may be covered by the employer levy. If cost is not covered by the levy, the employer will need to pay a small percentage of the course fee.
