CMI Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship (CMDA)

To apply, you will need to demonstrate and evidence where you have taken responsibility to deliver long-term organisational success.

Potential applicants will be expected to hold relevant level 3 qualifications, however prior experience may also be considered. You should also have achieved qualifications in English and mathematics at a minimum of level 2 or equivalent, and be able to demonstrate ICT skills at this level. Where this is not the case, apprentices must complete these by the end of the Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship.

For experienced managers, this degree apprenticeship offers a ‘Fast Track’ route by accrediting prior experiential learning (APEL) against our Foundation Degree, meaning that your studies can develop from your existing knowledge and skills and allow you to start at Level 6 to complete the programme over two years of part time study.

If English is not your first language, you will need an IELTS score of 7.0 with a minimum score of 6.5 in each component (Reading , Writing, Listening and Speaking or an equivalent English Language qualification).

The Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship is an exciting work-based route towards developing professionally competent Chartered Managers.
It includes three parts

1. Work-based learning which means that the apprentice is in paid employment for the duration of their apprenticeship and receives on the job training and support.
2. The completion of the BA (Hons) Leadership and Management at UCSD
3. Through both of the above, apprentices are able to acquire knowledge and skills, and prepare for the End Point Assessment, which has the assessment for Chartered Manager embedded.

The degree will consist of 5 modules which include:

Leadership and Management Concepts: This module provides an overview of the role of leadership and management within organisations and the differences between the two concepts. The relationship to a range of processes at individual, team, organisational and national levels will be explored; adopting multiple perspectives and viewpoints.

Operational Decision Making: Operational performance is imperative for continued success of organisations. This module looks at data management and effective decision making to support employee engagement and provide a motivational environment thus maximising effort.

Corporate Strategy in Action: This module draws from concepts of strategy in order to analyse real-world concepts, important for leadership and management decision making. It will explore both the theories and models of strategy, including the processes of developing a strategy, focussing on a range of analytical tools and their significance.

Extended Professional Practice: This module gives you the opportunity to work on a project that meets the needs of your organisation, enabling you to apply a wide range of knowledge, skills and behaviours into a project that will impact and have benefit to your organisation.

We recognise feedback as an essential component of your learning and progression. We adopt a feed-forward approach whereby feedback is given in a developmental manner to support your continued progression. You will receive feedback on all assessments within 20 working days.

You will be taught by an experienced teaching team whose expertise and knowledge are closely matched to the content of the modules on the course. The team includes academic staff, professional practitioners with industry experience, and where relevant, technicians. Postgraduate students undertaking teacher training may also contribute to the teaching of seminars under the supervision of the module leader. Our teaching is informed by research, professional practice and industry experience to provide you with the most up to date and relevant learning opportunities.

When not attending lectures, seminars or practicals you will be expected to continue learning independently through self-study. Typically, this will involve reading journal articles and books, working on individual and group projects, undertaking research in the library, preparing coursework assignments and presentations, and preparing for examinations where applicable. Your independent learning is supported by a range of excellent facilities, including the library, the UCSD Research Centre, and our course specific environments.

This apprenticeship has been designed to provide access to development opportunities for as wide a range of individuals as possible. The course would be beneficial for those at the start of their career wishing to become professional managers and achieve Chartered Manager status, or those who have already developed practical experience but wish to develop their theoretical understanding of management skills further.

This apprenticeship has been developed by a group of employers, in partnership with a number of higher education institutions and the Chartered Management Institute (CMI).

Under this scheme, workers who complete the apprenticeship will achieve a BA (Hons) in Leadership and Management and become a Chartered Manager. Students will need to demonstrate and evidence where they have taken responsibility to deliver long-term organisational success.
