Information for Employers

We work closely with employers to encourage and facilitate opportunities for student-employer engagement. Whether it’s advertising vacancies through our dedicated careers platform, collaborating on a project, or delivering a guest talk, we are always keen to hear from employers who are interested in getting involved.

Insight into our students

We have over 700 students studying towards a HNC, Foundation Degree, Top-up (Bachelor’s) degree or higher/degree apprenticeship across a range of curriculum areas.

The majority live within Torbay and South Devon and join us as school or college leavers, employees, career changers, or are returning to study to enhance their employment prospects.

Over half of those studying with us are mature students (aged 21 or over at the start of their course). Many of our students are also the first in their family to attend university or may have a disability. In light of this, professional mentors including alumni and those in industry can play an increasingly valuable role in supporting our students’ career planning and personal development.

According to the 2018 Destination of Leavers from Higher Education (DLHE) survey, 94.7% of UCSD students were in employment or further study six months after completing their course. Many seek these opportunities locally.

Advertise your vacancies

We work with employers recruiting into a range of vacancies, including graduate jobs, internships, and local, part-time and vacation work.

Our new Careers & Employability Centre is an online platform exclusive to students and alumni at both UCSD and South Devon College, allowing them to search and apply for jobs and opportunities, book onto events and explore employer profiles.

Contribute your knowledge and expertise to curriculum development

Through Industry Liaison Panels, we consult employers, professionals and alumni on the design, development and approval of our programmes to ensure they meet industry needs in the local economy.

Panels are held on an annual basis and invite employers to advise on topics such as skills development, course content, work-based learning and resource needs.

If you would like to register interest in being involved in an Industry Liaison Panel, please email [email protected].
