Course Overview

The Specialist Residential Nurse award is aimed at primarily at nurses who work within residential care homes and who are looking to update their specialist practice and approaches to care within this setting.

This award will examine the ageing process in depth, from both a physiological and psychological perspective to gain a deep knowledge and comprehension of the effect of ageing on both mental wellbeing and functional ability. The award will focus on the complex relationships between co-morbidity, cognitive decline, polypharmacy and ageing, and the impact of these on older person’s health and frailty.

The Specialist Residential Nurse Award programme is designed to enable practitioners to change the way in which care, and support is provided by moving from a task driven approach to a person directed approach and recognising the value of relationships in maintaining wellbeing for all those involved.
