Stepping Up to Higher Education

The Stepping up to Higher Education programme has been developed in conjunction with UCSD students and what they consider to be helpful to know before teaching commences. 

The Stepping Up to Higher Education programme consists of five online guides and two practical workshops. 

The online guides introduce new concepts and provide advice and guidance to help you make the transition to university level study. The two workshops enable you to apply and practice the skills you need to be a university student and successful professional.

Enrolment will be taking place online over the summer term, once you have a confirmed unconditional place. You will receive an email inviting you to complete the online enrolment form along with some instructions and more information about starting your programme in September. 

A copy of the enrolment instructions can be found here, please note you will only be able to complete your enrolment once you have confirmed your qualifications with the HE Team.

24 hours after enrolling your online induction will be available to you. 

Online Induction

Your online induction has been developed in conjunction with UCSD students and teaching teams to collate together the information you need prior to your onsite induction. 

The online induction consists of three guides, once you have completed them you will be prompted to an online form to confirm that you have watched the videos, actioned the points and understood the information provided. 

Onsite Induction

Onsite induction for September 2021 consists of one day and starts the week commencing 20th September 2021 for the majority of our programmes. Those on the Diploma in Education and Training (DET) and some Health programmes will have their induction the week commencing 13th September 2021.

Teaching will start the week commencing Monday 27th September (although not all programmes will start on the Monday). 

There are also some exceptions to this, including DET and some Health students, who may be starting slightly earlier or later, these will be communicated directly to you over the summer period.


You will be able to access your timetable though SDConnect (our app) after enrolment. Information on how to access this app will be provided to you after enrolment.

House shares are available for September, these consist of a room in a house share with other students, at a cost of £425-475 per month, inclusive of all bills and fully furnished! These are located in the local area of Torbay with good travel links to UCSD.
